With most themes, I generally recommend using the excerpts option because it gives a much better look and feel when it relates to using featured images or style formatting within your post’s summary (excerpt). Excerpts in WordPress will strip any formatting out, but brings it back when the full post is viewed.
Enable Excerpts
- Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Theme Options
- Find the “Use Excerpts” setting and check the box next to it to enable it…or uncheck to disable excerpts.
- Click “Save & Publish“
Excerpt Size
- Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Theme Options
- Find the “Excerpt Size” setting and either type in the number of words, or use the up/down arrows on the right side of the field. NOTE: The arrows will show when you mouseover the field.
- Click “Save & Publish“
NOTE When going to your admin and then to All Posts, you can view the posts as a list or as excerpts by clicking on the “Screen Options” tab in the upper right. The excerpt size you set will also affect this view by default – this is a core WordPress function that inherits the excerpt size you set.
