This theme includes a custom front page template so that you can move the blog further into your website while you build an alternative front page. Although this template is not loaded with a ton of layout options, it does give you some common elements built into it that you can enable or disable. Here is a screenshot showcasing the template:
You do not have to use all sections of this template; you pick and choose what you want. Currently, the sections are:
- Call to Action
- Image Boxes
- Blog Posts
With exception to the blog section, the rest of the items are created from within the customizer.
Call to Action
This is the section that has a button to the right:
You have full control over the title, introduction text, and the button.
- Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Front Page Settings
- Find the setting to show the Call to Action section and check the box:
- Now you can enter in a title for your call to action (If you do not want a title, leave this box empty)
- Continue with an introduction, but just like the title, if you don’t want an intro, leave it empty
- Then to add a button (optional), you can type in a button label and then your link.
- Click on “Save & Publish” at the top.
Image Boxes
Image boxes use a background image that you can upload and then add a title, intro, and a button to link to anything you want. These are more of just a visual display to navigate to anything you want. Image dimensions used for each box are: 360×500 pixels
- Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Front Page Settings
- Scroll down to find the “Show Imagebox Section” and check the box to enable the section
- Using the image upload setting, upload or browse for the image you want to use. The size in the demo site is 350×500 pixels.
- Now you can enter in a title
- Add an short introduction
- For a button, you can enter in a button label and link (replace the # symbol with the full URL (link) to what you are linking to).
- Repeat for each of the remaining image boxes.
- Click the “Save & Publish” button at the top.
Blog Section
Your front page also includes a section to display the latest posts from your blog. You won’t have much to do here because the blog will show automatically, any posts you have (preferably posts with featured images.
- Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Basic Settings
- Look for the “Enable Front Page Thumbnail Creation” and check the box. This will create thumbnails for your blog posts on the front page. One important note is that if your posts are already made before you enable this blog section, you will probably have to use a plugin called “Regenerate Thumbnails” so that they will be recreated.
- Go to the Front Page Settings tab in your customizer and scroll down to the “Show the Front Page Blog” and then check the box.
- If you want to have a section heading, you can type in a heading, otherwise you can leave it empty.
- Click on “Save & Publish“
